Support for Lubna and why it matters.
What she is up against..
I am pleased to see several YouTubers speak out in support of Lubna and her channel Candid with Lubna. As I wrote yesterday, she has taken down many of her videos after being sent death threats. Police came to her house and all this for a woman who doesn’t even criticise Islam, although one should be able to but who has tried to bring people together from all communities. Her own family is Muslim and she is a single mum wanting to bring about some positive change in the world. They say you should be the change you want to see but clearly if you don’t praise the Muslim and Pakistani community you are a target for their deep ire. To go on her channel as she often invites people on for a discussion is the way to do it, not send her death threats.
At one time, I used to think that people who go further than Lubna and protest against the ideology of Islam, are stupid but I have seen why they do it. They know what will happen to them but they are making a stand because that’s what having integrity involves. Lubna would talk to people like Baroness Sayeeda Warsi (a Muslim former Conservative MP), people on Speaker’s Corner some of whom were Christians, she would talk to adult children from cousin marriages within the Pakistani community and her policy was to keep the channel open for discussion. Well, look what happened and I think it is even more of a shame that the insecure and pathetic trolls targeted her of all people.
So, seeing YouTubers and speakers like Paul Thorpe, Apostate Prophet and David Wood, Tousi TV and I am sure many more that will follow, offering words of solidarity to Lubna and understanding what the issue is with silencing her, is something that is positive and lifting. It is the silver lining to this whole dark cloud. Lubna has set up a Go Fund Me if you are interested in contributing some money that will go towards keeping her child and her safe. Some may think she should have just shut up but what good is it to just kowtow to tyrants? Why can’t you expect more of all people other than this low expectations, ghetto sort of behaviour that numerous people employ in various communities? Lubna tried to raise standards and make people see the value in dialogue in a very diplomatic and understanding way. The fact that she was silenced speaks volumes of the threat we are all under in this country and in others.

I have watched part of her video where she explains why she's had to withdraw certain videos and is planning to change her output after these threats were made. It was a tough watch, because she's just a normal, intelligent person with a conscience, who has tried to build a bridge between a (frankly) backwards culture and the West, a culture which rarely attempts conciliatory gestures or bridge building of its own.
It's sad but also making me quite angry. Why are we having people like these unrepentantly backward Pakistanis, who support female subjugation and incest, who often openly support global Islamic conquest, Hamas and so on, come into our country and try to change it to Pakistan MkII, through provocation and threats? Only a horribly broken country and culture tolerates this kind of intimidation. Yet Pakistani interests are promoted at the very top of our governance. It all points to a horrific corruption of failed Liberal democracy.
Our only hope - and as you say the silver lining with Lubna, perhaps - is that a community of British people and civnats is starting to form. It is much needed.
