If the Swedes took away my vote on the basis that I'm not Swedish born I'd be fine with that. I'd rather err too much on that side than be in our current insane state. Better to go too far than not far enough as I think Sweden's democracy - like the UK's - is currently in a very precarious position.
I enjoyed reading your latest article and I watched the video you linked. My position has always been βI am British not Englishβ. Yes Englishness is an ethnicity and I would never claim something that was never mine. This was my position even before the era of wokeness. I watched the Nana Akua and Charlie Downs discussion. Now I do like Nana but I have to say that this time she was clumsy with her use of terminology. It would have been more interesting if she had asked Charlie if she was British? I think his response would have been very telling and would have shed light on Restores Official Position.
Exactly. Itβs very simple but I feel some people are being very wilful on this. Namely politicians who want to fling mud at the first legitimate party that puts the indigenous first.
Nana, Lubna, Nuriyah, Sameera etc are British. You too, Pallavi, though they have that advantage of being born on British soil. I know you moved here as a 1 year old and Britiain is therefor all you know. I'm just clarifying. I do get why Ben says what he says, he doesn't want to give an olive branch to the genuine racists who hate anyone who isn't 100% European or Anglo Saxon or Celtic etc. But just being British and not specifically English, specifically Welsh etc, isn't anything demeaning . It's fine to be just "British" π¬π§ππ»
Oh yeah definitely. I take no issue with being quote unquote just British. If I can call myself that as I was born abroad. (I canβt even remember what I used to fill in on forms. Indian? British Indian?)
Yes, those born in Britain can actually claim to be British.
I just donβt want to impose on English ethnicity. I have to say again Iβm surprised at Ben Habib. He could have separated Britishness from Englishness. In doing so there would be no issue. Now, itβs become an issue and thus heβs getting the racist comments. Which are always the exposure of the cream of the crop of society π€¦π»ββοΈ
βI also think that say, we have a Restore government in three years time and I lose my right to vote because I am an immigrant..β
They havenβt proposed this. Iβm just thinking ahead as in what if.

Iβm starting to think this way myself re my status in Britain.

Exactly Sameera especially with your last line!
I'm British and English. If I moved to Wales or Scotland I'd still be British but I wouldn't be Welsh or Scottish.
